Johannes Brahms’ “Ein deutsches Requiem”, composed between 1865 and 1868, is a profound reflection on life and death. Conceived after the passing of his mother and the earlier death of his mentor, Robert Schumann, Brahms’ Requiem diverges from traditional Latin mass, using Martin Luther’s German Bible translation. Its seven movements offer solace to the living, rather than focusing on the deceased, marking a significant evolution in the requiem form, and remains one of the most significant choral and orchestral works in the
repertoire. His diverse use of harmony and
orchestration create an unparalleled tapestry
of beauty and hope. In this iteration, Maestro
Ron De Fesi accompanies the work at the organ
and is joined by timpanist Brent Norton. The
